Do you ever see your images on one computer and then view them on another and they just don't look the same? Maybe they're too bright, too dark, or things that weren't visible on your computer are visible on someone elses?

You may need to calibrate your monitor! There are many ways to do it, and some of the top notch ways may cost you some money... but at least for now... take a look at... this!

Make sure you can see the clear lines between 0 and 100 for grayscale and the colours.

Different monitors require different ways to change their settings. You may have buttons on your monitor, you may need to go into your settings.

Urg, trying to get colors to look reasonably good across different monitors and OSs is one of my biggest headaches, thanks for the links...

I just wish there was a way to magically calibrate everyone's monitors... =P I've lost count of the number of times I've had to tell clients "remember, it won't look the same on everyone's monitors"... (I've even had people holding Pantone chips up to the screen and saying "make it match!" And this is for digital media, mind you. Stuff that will be viewed by who-knows-who on god-knows-what monitors. It's always gonna look different for different people, there ain't no cure.)

Whenever I fiddle around with these things, I end up thinking "ugh, all of the photos I've edited prior to this calibration are going to look like crap" These days, I just hope that it all looks okay.

One day, I'll have to get one of those calibration "pucks."

Another important topic for proper viewing:
Making sure the photos you edit are saved in the sRGB colour-space, to maintain your images hues.
